Short work week in the startup city with in-between leisure

Day 1 | Pier 39

Never imagined the first city I visit in the States would be San Francisco. Home to tech giants such as Google, LinkedIn, Airbnb, Uber you name it. I have always wanted to visit US probably because of the shows, hobbies and everything.

I quickly checked in to my hotel and make a trip to Pier 39 and grab myself some in-and-out burger. We used another popular ride hailing app known as Lyft.
The place had a few shops, eatery and souveniers stalls - A lot were seen having clam chowder soup and some seafood catch. There's a chocolate stall that also sells Ghirardelli - which is one of the popular chocolate you will find in San Francisco

We were in luck to bump into a freelance circus performer doing some 'DONT TRY THIS AT HOME' kind of balancing act. There were also some navy exhibitions happening as we see some battleships and submarine.

We headed back to the hotel as the sky turned dark and I lost my brand new baseball cap in the taxi. What a way to start the awesome week.

Day 2 | Brunch at Mama's

We bumped into fellow colleagues who were out on their way to brunch at Mama's. Apparently its a popular spot for sunday brunch so we decided to join them. The line was there before they opened doors - we waited about a good 75 mins before we had a seat. Ordered their Signature Crab Benedict and a cuppa cappuccino. After that we took a long walk to Golden Gate Bridge.

Later that evening, we went to SPIN for a networking session to meet fellow STF folks. Had a great time interacting with colleagues from other functions and of course the food was great. Some of them helped themselves to the ping pong table except for myself because I suck at it.

Day 3 | Breakfast @ The Bird

Had breakfast at the spot recommended by fellow colleague. The chicken sandwich and tater tots was really delicious. The cinnamon balls were okay.
Getting pumped before the workshop in Galvanize.

Also, some random dude just came in and helped himself to the drinks dispenser. The counter guy went all nuts on and chase him out. Can't imagine the daily effort he has to put into apart from his day to day responsibilities.

UBER and Fogo De Chao

We had a short tour in UBER office and had the opportunity to tour their workspaces and pantry. Most of these people seemed to own standing desks, some even went to customize their desks with cactus, gundam figures etc. Needless to say that their pantry is well equipped with coffee and fruit.

We headed to Fogo De Chao, a brazillian bbq buffet steakhouse for dinner. We also ordered some brazillian cocktails and beverage. There is a tab on the table that indicates you would like to have food served. So each waiter with different skewers of meat will be walking around and cut you the portion you want. If you would like a break or done with the food, just turn the tab and they will get it.
Its a perfect place for carnivores. The salad bar also had a decent spread. We spent around $100 per pax including tips.

Day 4 | Morning Hike at MUIR Woods

The team had arranged a morning hike for us at Muir Woods. Took some yoghurt and muffins while we're on the way. Muir woods was pretty fascinating - with the tall redwoods. It was a tad chilly when we reached but quickly went away as we began to hike. I met new people, colleagues, friends and conversations with new people always surprises me.

Later in day, we were informed that a baseball match is happening at AT&T stadium tonight between Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants. They had bought tickets for us.It was my first time watching a live baseball game and it was an eye opener for me. The stadium was huge and there were loads of food stalls selling burgers, fries, wings and booze. Basically any food that can increase your blood pressure and cholesterol you can find it there. The cash to purchase these food were loaded in our tickets so the transaction would be hasslefree, we simply tapped and go.

I was hoping to catch a live NBA game but it was off season. Better luck next time

Day 5 | Escape Room @ REASON

So there's this company that specialize in corporate team building activities and they did so by putting us in an escape room. It was my first time participating in such activity and was totally blown away by the setting of the game room. The level of quizzes, puzzles and cyptography blended with gadgets and some technological feat was real impressive. I recalled there were holographic maps, drones as part of the quests. All of us worked in tandem and managed to complete the game on time. Stoked

SODHANI Vineyard Experience

Had the privilege to visit Sodhani vineyard for a dinner with wine tasting with choice of chardonnay and merlot. on the way back, we turned our shuttle into a mobile discotheque, blasting music of all genre. It was a legendary night
